An Israeli soldier was injured on Thursday by Palestinian fire during an Israeli military raid into the Palestinian village of Brurqin, west of the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

Israeli media quoted the Israeli army saying that the soldier was wounded in his hand and transferred to hospital.

Palestinian media circulated published video footage depicting confrontations between Palestinian militants and Israeli forces in Burqin at dawn.

"Israeli forces entered Burqin around 2:00 am on Thursday apparently to arrest people," Mohammad Ateeq, a local journalist from Burqin, told The New Arab.

"Soon after Israeli troops entered the village, they clashed with gunmen. The raid lasted for about an hour, throughout which shooting stopped only for a few minutes," he added.

Burqin is located close to the western part of Jenin city, making it a regular site for Israeli forces raiding the Jenin refugee camp. In recent months, Israeli raids have increased in the area, often accompanied by clashes with Palestinian militants.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces raided the cities of Nablus, Jericho, Tulkarem and the town of Silwad northeast of Ramallah, arresting 17 Palestinians.

Israeli arrests continue as Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails prepare for a mass hunger strike in September, against Israeli punitive actions against them. Palestinian protests in support of the prisoners’ move are expected during the weekend.
