Displaced Palestinian children, reeling from more than four months of Israel's brutal war on Gaza, fly colourful kites over their makeshift camp in Rafah, along the border with Egypt.

Gaza’s education system has suffered significantly since Israel’s bombardment and assault on the strip began. Since October 7, approximately 378 schools have been destroyed or damaged.

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are hoping a ceasefire could arrive in time to head off a threatened Israeli ground assault on Rafah, which is now home to over a million people, many of them living in makeshift tents.

Gaza's health ministry says at least 28,340 Palestinians have been confirmed killed, and more than 67,984 injured since October 7.
