At the premiere of The Apprentice at Cannes Film festival, Australian actress Cate Blanchett’s red carpet appearance became the talk of social media due to the colours of her dress supposedly resembling the colours of the Palestinian flag.

With the red carpet as the backdrop, Blanchett lifted the back of her black and white dress to expose internal green lining - all of which are the colours of the Palestinian flag. While most media outlets ignored commenting on the dress and the colour combination, social media has been rife with speculation that Blanchett intended to send a message of support for Palestine.

The Oscar-winning actress is well known for her activism and has a track record of showing solidarity with the Palestinian cause. In October, she signed a letter along with 60 actors from Hollywood, urging US President Joe Biden to call for a ceasefire in Israel and Gaza. The iconic dress that Blanchett wore on Monday was designed by Colombian French designer Haider Ackermann.
