Vodafone Qatar confirmed the network was hit with technical issues early on Monday, leading to more than 15 hours of a blackout for users in the Gulf emirate.

Vodafone customers in Qatar are experiencing a complete blackout, reports suggest, after the network company confirmed a "technical issue".

The network said it was working to restire service, which it said "might affect access to our network", in a tweet posted early on Monday morning.

Subsequent tweets showed the network was struggling to resolve the issue that was triggered during planned upgrade work.

Vodafone said staff were "working tirelessly" to fix the issue as frustrated customers took to Twitter to vent their anger at the prolonged loss of service.
