US issues visa to Iran's president for UN General Assembly
It is expected that Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif would arrive in New York on Friday, and President Hassan Rouhani on Monday, a spokesman at Iran's mission to the UN said.
Their visit comes as tension between the US and Iran has risen following the weekend attack on oil installations in Saudi Arabia, which says Iran is behind it.
The Pentagon said on Thursday that the US military will be working with Saudi Arabia to find ways to provide more protection for the northern part of the country in the wake of the drone and cruise missile attack on the kingdom's oil industry.
Yemen's Houthi rebels claim Saturday's attack was in response to the years-long Saudi-led war there, but US and Saudi officials say it was launched from the north.
The US has blamed Iran for the assault, condemning it as an "act of war" which knocked out half the kingdom's oil production.
