Syria regime forces killed, wounded in two attacks in Daraa province

Members of the Syrian regime's forces were killed and wounded in two attacks in the south of the country on Monday.
Unidentified gunmen attacked a regime radar checkpoint east of the town of Al-Naimah in Daraa province, activist Abu Mohammed Al-Hourani told The New Arab's Arabic sister site, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.
Three soldiers were killed and two seriously wounded.
Al-Hourani added that unknown attackers also targeted a checkpoint belonging to the regime's army in Al-Sanamayn, a city in Daraa province, killing one.
The regime brought in reinforcements and imposed a security cordon at the two locations, while the attackers fled.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, like in many previous incidents in Daraa which have resulted in the killing and wounding of dozens of members of the regime's forces.
It comes as calm and anticipation prevailed in various cities and towns in the Daraa countryside, after demonstrations took place calling for the overthrow of President Bashar Al-Assad's regime and the release of detainees.
The regime has arrested and forcibly disappeared thousands of Syrians in its prisons and detention centres.
Despite issuing many decrees providing for a general amnesty, thousands of missing people remain disappeared.

Daraa province was the first area of Syria to rise up against Assad's rule in 2011 and it became an opposition stronghold until it was recaptured by the regime and Russian forces in 2018.
Though the regime is normally in control of Daraa, former opposition elements have waged a low-level insurgency since 2018.
Regime-affiliated fighters and militias also target civilians and former opposition fighters with impunity.
The regime has sought to increase its influence in the southern province in recent months, according to analysts.
