Sweden, Finland poised to become NATO members as quickly as summer: report
Russia's stumbling military efforts have hit another "massive strategic blunder" as Finland and Sweden seem set to become members of the NATO military alliance as quickly as summer, Britain's The Times newspaper on Monday cited officials as saying.
United States officials said that Sweden and Finland's potential joining of NATO had been "a topic of conversation and multiple sessions" last week in discussions between the grouping's foreign ministers, which Stockholm and Helsinki were present at, the report added.
It comes amid Russia's brutal invasion of neighbouring Ukraine, an assault which began on 24 February and which has been widely condemned by the international community.
The invasion has increased anxiety in other European nations near Russia over the prospect that they could face a similar attack.
