Six workers died and several more were missing after a rockslide in a remote part of Oman, emergency authorities said on Sunday.

Search and rescue teams were at the scene in Al-Arid in the northern governorate of Al-Dhahirah, Oman's Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority said.

"The rockslides are ongoing and are hampering the search operation for missing persons. So far, six bodies have been recovered and four others have been rescued," the agency tweeted, adding that injuries were moderate to critical.

The agency had said earlier than five people were killed and five others were rescued.

Al-Dhahirah, the landlocked, sparsely populated governorate west of the capital, Muscat, borders the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
