Saudi woman 'arrested for hugging' singer Majid al-Mohandis at concert
The woman darted onto the stage and embraced the Iraqi-born entertainer at the Okaz Souq festival in the western city of Taif on Friday.
A video on social media shows the music fan invading mid-song and wrapping her arms around the singer's neck, as a security guard tries to wrestle her off.
According to Saudi media reports, "the suspect is held at the Al-Taif Foundation for Women's Care pending investigation," a Mecca police official spokesman said.
"The girl had committed a deed incriminated in the anti-harassment act," an official told Sabq news site, referring to a law adopted in the kingdom in May.
If convicted, the woman could face up to two years in jail and a fine of 100,000 Saudi riyals ($26,600), according to the Saudi newspaper Okaz. Neither the name nor age of the woman was disclosed.
Mohandis, who carried on singing after the incident, has not commented.
