England has named its squad to compete in the Qatar 2022 World Cup tournament this month.

England has named its squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The team - who are in group B of the tournament - are set to open against Iran in a first ever World Cup game between the countries.

They are also set to play against the United States and fellow home nation Wales.

England last won a World Cup tournament in 1966, with fans hoping that the team come home with another win this year.

Jordan Pickford (Everton), Nick Pope (Newcastle), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal) have been selected as the goalkeepers for the England squad.

The defenders will be Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw (both Manchester United), Eric Dier (Tottenham), John Stones, Kyle Walker (both Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), Conor Coady (Everton), Ben White (Arsenal) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

Midfielders will be Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund/GER), Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher (both Chelsea), Declan Rice (West Ham), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Kalvin Phillips (Manchester City)

Finally, forwards will be James Maddison (Leicester), Phil Foden, Jack Grealish (both Manchester City), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Raheem Sterling (Chelsea), Callum Wilson (Newcastle), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United).

Some football fans have expressed surprise that striker Ivan Toney (Brentford) was not included in the draw after a successful last season at his club, saying the player was "robbed" in the selection.
