Palestinian actress Maisa Abd Elhadi was charged Sunday with "inciting terrorism" after expressing solidarity with the people of Gaza.

Israeli police arrested the actress in Nazareth on 23 October after she shared a photo of members of Hamas breaking through the border wall with Gaza on 7 October.

The caption accompanying it read "Let's do it Berlin-style" in reference to the 1989 demolition of the Berlin Wall, and related to the attack in Israel which killed 1,400 people.

Israeli Interior Minister Moshe Arbel has reportedly called for Abd Elhadi to be stripped of her Israeli citizenship and directed his Population and Immigration Authority to examine the issue.

The actress was released from house arrest last Thursday but the Nazareth prosecutor has requested that she be kept under arrest until the legal proceedings against her are completed.

The prosecutor's office also asked that her phone, which it described as "the tool used for incitement", be confiscated.

They claimed that "the actress expressed her joy regarding the October 7th massacre in Israeli towns [of around 1,400 people] adjacent to the Gaza Strip, carried out by the Qassam Brigades".

The charges against the actress, who currently has more than 32,000 followers on Instagram, also include a post in which she shared a photo of an elderly woman held hostage by Hamas with the caption: "This is the adventure of her life."

Israeli police have launched a series of arrests within the Palestinian community since the beginning of the Gaza war.

Most of these arrests are related to social media posts condemning the attacks on Gaza which have killed 8,300 people.

Palestinians in Israel have also faced threats of dismissal from their jobs for such posts.

Israeli social media users claimed Abd Elhadi's comments demonstrated ingratitude towards Israel.

"Israel gave her everything — opportunities, support, name & fame... But, when Hamas terrorists attacked Israel & killed 1000s of people, she celebrated it," said one user of social media platform 'X'.
