Palestinian photographer Yazan Al-Zuweidi was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza on Sunday, his employers Al Ghad TV announced.

In a statement, the channel urged international human rights groups to denounce Israel's targeting of journalists and attacks on freedom of expression.

Al-Zuweidi, who had been working with Al Ghad for six years, covered wars and various events in Gaza.

Following Al-Zuweidi's death, the Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip reported that the number of journalists killed by Israel in Gaza had reached 118.

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) announced on Saturday that the International Criminal Court (ICC) intends to investigate crimes committed by Israel against journalists in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Paris-based organisation shared a statement from ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan, which confirmed that the investigation into Palestinian territory violations will include crimes against journalists.

The Al Jazeera Media Network also accused Israel of deliberately targeting its journalists while on duty and dismissed Israeli denials as “false and misleading”.
