Israel killed 355 Palestinians last year, including 87 children, and wounded over 16,500, the Palestinian health ministry said on Monday.

The ministry issued a report which said that 265 Palestinians lost their lives in Gaza, largely during Israel's deadly May bombing campaign against the Strip, which lasted for 11 days.

Israel killed a further 90 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

By April 2021, 10 Palestinians had been killed, but this quickly rose to 303 by the next month, illustrating the significance of the escalation in May.

Similarly, the majority of those wounded were hurt during that month's violence, according to the report.

Of the 3,000 wounded Palestinians admitted to hospital, 2,131 of these were in Gaza and 964 in the West Bank.

Wounds caused by live gunfire also shot up in May, rising to 2,866 from 56 in April.

A quarter of those hurt by live fire were children, according to the health ministry.

The report also looked at the areas with the most Palestinians killed.

Nablus came in first in the West Bank, with 30 deaths, more than double second-place Jenin's 14.

Gaza City was the deadliest place in the besieged enclave, with 120 killed there, while 75 lost their lives in the Strip's north.

Israel killed 34 Palestinian in Khan Yunis, also in Gaza.
