Israel has boasted of dropping some 6,000 bombs on the Gaza Strip in a six-day period, despite the devastating death toll.

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) posted images of destroyed buildings in the besieged enclave on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday.

"Dozens of fighter jets and helicopters attacked a series of terrorist targets of the Hamas terrorist organization throughout the Gaza Strip," it said.

"So far, the IAF has dropped about 6,000 bombs against Hamas targets."

But Israeli forces have struck residential buildings, hospitals and ambulances, killing over 1,800 people, including civilians, journalists, medics and over 500 children.

"Israel is dropping in less than a week what the US was dropping in Afghanistan in a year, in a much smaller, much more densely populated area, where mistakes are going to be magnified," PAX for Peace military adviser Marc Garlasco was quoted as saying by The Washington Post.

More than 1,300 people were killed in Israel on Saturday when Hamas and other Palestinian fighters launched a surprise attack into the country's south from Gaza.

The IAF claimed to have killed "hundreds of terrorists" and "attacked over 3,600 targets".

It said these include strategic military infrastructure and rocket system targets.

"We will continue to attack forcefully and relentlessly, as long as necessary," the Israeli forces added.

X users expressed shock at the posting of the photos.

Journalist Mehdi Hasan responded on Friday, saying: "It's been a day and I still can't quite get over the fact that the Israeli military itself proudly published these pictures."
