Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi is in the running for yet another award following the nomination of his film 'A Hero' for Best Foreign Language Film at the Golden Globes 2022.

The two-time Oscar-winner wrote and directed 'A Hero', the only film from the Middle East to receive a nomination at the annual international awards.

The film follows the story of Rahim, played by Amir Jadidi, who was imprisoned because he was unable to repay a debt. During a two-day leave from prison, he tries to convince his creditor to withdraw a complaint against him but things don’t go as planned.

"I no longer care about the fate of the film that I made with all my heart. Whether in or outside Iran, this movie will live on its merits," Farhadi wrote on social media last month.

'A Hero' has already won the 2021 Cannes Film Festival’s Grand Prix and is Iran's official Oscar entry for 2022.

Farhadi brought home an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012 for 'A Separation', the first Iranian film ever to win the award, and again in 2017 for 'The Salesman'.

Other contenders in the 2022 Golden Globe non-English language category are 'Parallel Mothers', a Spanish film about two expecting mothers, and 'The Hand of God', an Italian film about a teenager saved from a freak accident by Diego Maradona.

Tahar Rahim, a French actor of Algerian descent, is also in the running for a Golden Globe next year, for playing Charles Sobhraj in 'The Serpent'.

Rahim is in the running for best actor alongside Ewan McGregor, who starred in 'Halston', and Michael Keaton in 'Dopesick'.

The French-Algerian was nominated for a Golden Globe award last year for his role as Mohamedou Ould Salahi, a Guantanamo Bay inmate, in 'The Mauritanian'.
