Former France international Corentin Martins has left his role as Libya coach by mutual consent, a member of his entourage told AFP on Sunday.

The 53-year-old stepped down after Libya were eliminated in the group stage of the African Nations Championship despite a 3-1 win over Ethiopia in their final game.

Libya lost 1-0 to hosts Algeria in the tournament's opening match and were then beaten 3-2 by Mozambique.

The former Auxerre and Strasbourg midfielder made his name as a coach in Africa by guiding Mauritania to their first two Africa Cup of Nations appearances during a seven-year spell in charge from 2014 to 2021.
