Elon Musk talked business with Turkey's President Erdogan. No, Dogecoin and the lira were not discussed
SpaceX chief Elon Musk talked space collaboration on a video chat with Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday.
Other topics discussed at the virtual meeting included the online economy and electric cars, Anadolu Agency reported.
The call comes amid an unprecedented slide in the Turkish lira, while Musk is known for advocating crypto alternatives to fiat national currencies, most famously Dogecoin. However, this was not broached in the meeting.
Musk - founder of the Tesla car company and wealthiest person on Earth - spoke with Erdogan about Ankara's space efforts and Turkish state and private collaboration with Musk's firms, particularly on space and satellite development, the Turkish Communications Directorate said.
They also discussed existing collaboration, including lithium batteries for Turkey's first electric car and the launch of Ankara's orbital satellite Turksat 5B, set for Saturday.
Turksat 5B is designed for civilian and military communications. Its planned launch comes after SpaceX sent predecessor Turksat 5A into orbit at the start of the year.
Time made Musk its 2021 Person of the Year on Monday.
