Dubai hotel breaks world record with champagne glass pyramid
A Dubai hotel has broken a world record for the largest drinking glass tower, with a pyramid made up of 54,740 glasses of Moet & Chandon champagne.
The champagne-glass tower, built by Atlantis, The Palm hotel, broke the record previously held by the makers of a tower made up of 50,116 glasses of champagne in Madrid in 2017.
“The champagne tower is traditionally a beacon of greatness and generosity, and we’d like to toast to a new year filled with both in abundance,” Atlantis Resorts and Residences executive Vice President and director Timothy Kelly told Travel + Leisure.
Standing a more than 27 feet tall, the tower took over 55 man-hours to complete over five days.
The champagne glass tower was taken off display on January 1, after which the glasses were recycled by a local glassblower. The new glasses will be used to serve guests at the Atlantis hotel.
In 2020, the UAE announced a major overhaul of the country's Islamic personal laws, loosening alcohol restrictions among other personal freedoms in a bid to present itself as a skyscraper-studded destination for Western tourists and businesses.
