Greater Manchester Police have reported "a number of fatalities and injuries" following an explosion during a pop concert on Monday evening.

British police are currently investigating an incident at the Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena.

Videos showed crowds fleeing the venue following the sound of an explosion.

The Greater Manchester Police tweeted about the incident, warning locals to refrain from entering the area: "Police responded to reports of an incident at Manchester Arena. Please stay away from the area".

One eyewitness said that she heard a "loud bang" from her home, which woke her up.

Another eyewitness told BBC TV that he was "blown off his feet" and the explosion came from the box office on the way into the doors of the arena.

Some had speculated that the noise came from a popped oversized balloon, whereas others thought it may have been gunshots.

It is currently unclear how many injuries and fatalities have occurred.
