Airstrikes destroy mosque in Damascus killing two civilians

Russian airstrikes hit al-Huda mosque in the centre of the town of Khan al-Sheikh in western Damascus, local sources told The New Arab.

"Two civilians were killed and dozens more wounded," a civil defence officer told The New Arab.

Meanwhile Syrian regime bombardment in the city of Idlib killed a child and a woman and left several others wounded on Sunday.

"A woman was killed by strikes targeting the town of Armanaz, northern Idlib," Syrian activist Mohammed Abu Jaber told The New Arab.

"A child was also killed and dozen more were wounded by regime rockets that hit Idlib’s western suburbs," Abu Jaber said.

A large number of rebel groups are active in Idlib province including al-Qaeda's branch in Syrian known as the Fatah al-Sham Front.

Syrian and Russian warplanes have been conducting airstrikes on villages and towns in Idlib province for months.

In October, 35 people were killed air raids which struck a school complex in the village of Hass as children gathered outside preparing to return home. 

Twenty-two children were among the dead in what UNICEF dubbed as the deadliest attack on a school since Syria's civil war began nearly six years ago.
