Mohamed Salah has been hailed by fans for consoling Moroccan player Achraf Hakimi following Egypt's 2-1 victory over the Atlas Lions in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite Morocco clinching an early lead, the Liverpool star secured the Pharaohs' place in the semi-finals by scoring one goal and setting up the other in extra time.

After the final whistle blew, instead of celebrating the Egyptian captain knelt down to comfort PSG right wing-back Hakimi, who looked devastated by the defeat.

"Love this from Mo," wrote Liverpool fan account Liverpool Goals on social media.

"Right at the FT whistle, instead of celebrating, Mo Salah went to Hakimi in support who was devastated to be knocked out of AFCON. Respect."

Sofiane Boufal gave Morocco their early lead in Sunday's game with a penalty before Salah soon equalised.

Later, the Liverpool star crossed the ball into the penalty box for Aston Villa's Trezeguet to score the winning goal.

Egypt, who are hoping to become AFCON champions for the eighth time, will face Cameroon on Thursday in the semi-final.
