Critics have accused the Turkish government of being soft on IS [Anadolu].

Turkish forces returned fire after one Turkish soldier was killed and at least one more was wounded Thursday by Islamic State group (IS, formerly ISIS) fire from the Syrian side of the border, the official Anatolia news agency reported.

The soldier was killed in the Turkish border region of Kilis, the agency said, three days after a suicide bombing blamed on IS militants killed 32 people. Dogan news agency said four soldiers had been wounded and the fire came from an area controlled by IS.

IS fighters are also reported to have died in the clashes.

Turkish forces fired shells on IS positions across the border, locals told al-Araby al-Jadeed, before IS sent reinforcements into the border area.
