A Palestinian teenager has died after being shot by Israeli forces close to the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, in the southern West Bank on Monday.

According to local sources, Israeli forces shot more than 10 times at 18-year-old Saad al-Atrash, who was walking on al-Sahla Street, close to the famed mosque.

Atrash was then left on the ground, bleeding, while Palestinian Red Crescent ambulances were prevented from reaching the area.

Local sources told al-Araby al-Jadeed that Israeli ambulances arrived upon the scene half an hour after the teenager was shot, but Israeli medics did not assist the young man.

Point-blank

Witnesses say that Israeli forces had stopped the teenager and held him against a wall, when he was asked to raise his shirt and was mocked by the soldiers.

The soldiers then shot Atrash, who dropped to the ground, only to be shot multiple more times.

Eyewitnesses rejected the Israeli claim that the teenager had intended to launch a "knife attack".

As Palestinian youths gathered at the scene, extremist Israeli settlers attacked the crowd before Israeli forces closed the area off.

Israeli forces had killed Raed Jaradat, a young Palestinian man in his twenties earlier on Monday, after he allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli soldier east of Hebron.
