South Korea scored a dramatic late goal to beat Portugal 2-1 on Friday and qualify for the World Cup last 16 at Uruguay's expense.

Substitute Hwang Hee-chan's goal in stoppage time was enough to put the Koreans through to the knockout phase on goals scored, rescuing them from the brink of World Cup elimination, even though Uruguay beat Ghana 2-0 in the other match in Group H.

The Korean players then stood in a huddle on the pitch watching the Ghana v Uruguay match on a mobile phone as they awaited their place in the last 16 to be confirmed.

Already-qualified Portugal skipper Cristiano Ronaldo played a part in the Korean equaliser, turning his back on a corner and the ball hitting him to set up Kim.

Tonight will see the fate of Group G's teams decided, with Serbia taking on Switzerland and Brazil playing against Cameroon at 10pm (7pm GMT).
