The Syrian regime's foreign ministry reportedly warned Israel on Tuesday that it risks pushing the region towards "total escalation" following a series of airstrikes Damascus has attributed to Israeli forces.
The warning comes after a fourth airstrike in a week struck near Damascus on Tuesday, reportedly killing two Syrian civilians.
"Syria warns Israel and its sponsors once again of the dangers of these aggressive policies, which push the region towards total escalation and a new phase of insecurity and instability," The Times of Israel quoted the Syrian foreign ministry as saying in a statement.
The ministry also accused Israel of conducting the airstrikes to "escape its internal problems through aggressions and crimes outside its borders", likely in reference to the massive protests that have rocked Israel over the past few weeks.
One of the past week's strikes killed two members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Iran, a key ally of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, condemned the recent strikes and vowed revenge for the killing of the two IRGC soldiers. Tehran's foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani accused Israel of bringing "war and insecurity" and "creating discord in the region".
Israel's military does not comment on specific strikes in Syria but has admitted to conducting hundreds of strikes against Iran-backed groups in Syria.
