Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon wants to extend his nationalist Breitbart News to Egypt.
The head of the ultra conservative outlet, who returned to the post after his sacking from the Trump administration last month, revealed his ambitions for the right-wing website in his first post-White House speech at an investor forum in Hong Kong on Tuesday.
Although press was banned from the event, Channel NewsAsia correspondent Wei Du had an inside seat and live-tweeted Bannon's remarks.
"Bannon also wants to expand @BreitbartNews globally, names India and Eygpt as places where he sees similar nationalistic sentiments," she tweeted.

Long known for his espousal of far-right nationalist views and anti-Muslim sentiments, the 63-year-old was linked to some of the new administration's most right-wing policies, such as the travel ban affecting seven Muslim-majority countries.
Critics labelled him a white supremacist, and his presence at the White House was controversial from the start.

His media outlet Breitbart has been criticised for carrying Islamophobic, racist and xenophobic stories with questionable veracity.
Egypt is ruled by strongman Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, a general who led a coup against democratically elected Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013. He is considered a close ally of Israel and has had warm relations with Donald Trump.
