Saudi authorities arrested a man on Monday in the capital Riyadh for allegedly impersonating a security official and carrying out a robbery at gunpoint.

Police apprehended the Syrian national, who they said installed equipment in his vehicle similar to that used by police in order to rob people at gunpoint.

A police spokesman said the car, firearms, and ammunition used by the perpetrator were all seized.

Impersonating security personnel in Saudi Arabia carries a prison sentence of up to three years or a fine of up to 50,000 riyals ($13,330).
