The Israeli military has announced the arrest of a Palestinian who allegedly carried out an attack against Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank last September.

Israel identified the Palestinian suspect as Maher Turkman, claiming he carried out a shooting attack along with his son and nephew. They reportedly opened fire from their vehicle at a bus carrying Israeli soldiers in the Jordan Valley in the occupied West Bank on 4 September 2022, injuring six Israeli soldiers and the driver.

The suspect's son and nephew were arrested shortly after the attack and were found with severe burns. Maher's son Muhammad later died of his wounds.

According to the Israeli military, Maher Turkman was hiding in the village of Yamoun in the Jenin area. He had been at large since the attack.

Also on Thursday, Israeli forces raided the Aqabat Jaber refugee camp in Jericho.

According to Palestinian sources, the Israeli army initially arrested 14 Palestinians, but six were later released.

The Palestinian health ministry said 8 Palestinians were injured during the raid in Jericho.

On Monday, Israeli forces killed three Palestinians in a raid on the Balata refugee camp in Nablus in the occupied West Bank.

In a statement, the Palestinian health ministry identified the three men killed as Muhammad Abu Zaytoun, 32, Fathi Abu Rizk, 30, and Abdullah Abu Hamdan, 24.

Over 150 Palestinians have been killed by Israel since the beginning of the year, as it continues with near-daily raids on towns and cities in the occupied West Bank.

Rights groups have repeatedly highlighted Israel's "appalling disregard for human life" saying Israeli forces carry out reckless, unlawful attacks on Palestinians resulting in extrajudicial killings.
