Israeli's foreign minister said Wednesday his government was studying a proposal by Egypt for a ceasefire with resistance groups in the Gaza Strip, as Israeli airstrikes killed at least six Palestinians on Wednesday.

The violence comes a day after Israeli airstrikes killed 15 people in Gaza, including children and three leaders from the Islamic Jihad movement (PIJ).

Israel has evacuated people from towns surrounding Gaza, and for the first time used its David's Sling interceptor.

Last week, the PIJ fired rockets into Israel following the death of one of its activists in the West Bank. Khader Adnan died in Israeli custody after spending more than 80 days on hunger strike.

Elsewhere in the occupied West Bank, two other Palestinians were killed during a raid by Israeli forces.

The latest violence brings to 125 the number of Palestinians killed by both Israeli forces and settlers so far this year.

The New Arab is monitoring the situation in the Palestinian territories amid fears that Israel will carry out more deadly attacks in the Gaza Strip and West Bank.
