Israeli forces besieged the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem on Sunday, ejecting Palestinian worshippers and blocking all entry points to the Al-Aqsa compound.
When settlers stormed the compound on Sunday morning, Israeli forces assaulted Palestinian worshippers and ejected them from the site, according to local media reports.
Israeli soldiers closed the gates to the Al-Aqsa compound and set up roadblocks on all routes leading to it, preventing Palestinian worshippers from entering.
At Bab al-Asbat - one of the compound's gates - at least 13 civilians were injured when Israeli soldiers attacked Palestinians, local sources told The New Arab's Arabic-language sister service, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.
Violence in and around Al-Aqsa Mosque - one of the holiest sites in Islam - had been brewing since before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan began on 2 April.
It erupted on Friday, when Israeli soldiers stormed the compound firing hand grenades, tear gas, and live rounds. Some 150 Palestinians were injured; 400 were arrested.
Friday's raid saw solidarity protests held in Jerusalem, the besieged Gaza Strip, and the occupied West Bank.
