The people of southern Syria are angry and taking to the streets again – but this time, they’re doing it because of controversial remarks made by Benjamin Netanyahu.

Over the weekend, the Israeli prime minister, who was has been issued an ICC arrest warrant for alleged war crimes, said he would not allow Syria’s new army or the insurgent group that led the ouster of former President Bashar Assad to "enter the area south of Damascus".

He also demanded the complete demilitarisation of southern Syria in the provinces of Quneitra, Daraa, and Suwaida. In response, angry protests erupted in the city of Bosra al-Sham in Daraa, and quickly spread to other cities.

Demonstrators demanded the removal of Israeli forces from Daraa and Quneitra in southern Syria, while holding banners denouncing any attempt to divide the country.
