It has been nearly 500 days since the Israeli war on Gaza began. Once home to 2.2 million Palestinians, Gaza was a vibrant place filled with bustling streets, neighbourhoods, schools, universities, mosques, and gardens.
Today, it has been reduced to a ghost city—flattened and buried under rubble. According to UN estimates, more than 90% of Gaza’s housing units have been damaged, with 160,000 completely destroyed and another 276,000 severely or partially damaged.
The enclave’s officials have now set the toll at 61,182 Palestinians killed or missing after thousands of bodies were recovered and later brought to hospitals, and after several remains were uncovered.
