The 2015 Iran nuclear deal was a breakthrough that ended a 12-year stand-off between Tehran and the West.

Now that President Donald Trump has decided to withdraw the US from the pact, the question on everyone's mind is, "what next?".

World leaders have despaired over the potential collapse of the accords that took years of careful negotiation, while Israel and Saudi Arabia have praised Trump's "bold" move.

With US sanctions against Tehran back on the table, the Islamic Republic is weighing its response.

While Tehran's foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif embarks on a tour to save the deal, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei meanwhile has dabbled in digital diplomacy.

On his Instagram page on Friday, a picture was posted of Khamenei at a Tehran book fair, reading a Persian translation of "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House", Michael Wolff's controversial tell-all book that depicts a White House in perpetual chaos.

Trump described the explosive book, which raised concerns about his mental health, as "fiction and a disgrace" and its author as a "fraud".

It sought to severely discredit the president by laying bare his unfitness for the Oval Office.

Khamenei's post came a few days after Iran's President Hassan Rouhani hoped to ruffle a few US feathers when he delivered this burn. Ouch.
