A record number of Arab teams have now qualified for next year's World Cup, with seven nations, and possibly eight, making it through to the finals.

Qatar and Saudi Arabia both reserved their spots in football's biggest tournament on Tuesday night, with the Qataris beating the Emiratis 2-1 and the Green Falcons holding Iraq to a goalless draw.

The UAE and Iraq still have a chance of qualifying for the World Cup via an intercontinental play-off, although Qatar's win dashed Oman's dreams of reaching their first-ever World Cup.

Israel, meanwhile, has no hope of qualifying after being thrashed 3-0 by Italy on Tuesday.

Egypt

Egypt's 3-0 win over Djibouti, thanks to two Mo Salah goals, saw the Pharaohs qualify for their first World Cup since 2018. On Sunday, they beat Guinea-Bissau 1-0 to make it a successful qualifying campaign with eight wins and two draws.

Algeria

Algeria secured top spot in their group with a 3-0 win over Somalia last week, the fifth time they have qualified for the World Cup.

Morocco

Morocco had a flawless campaign, with eight wins in eight games and conceding just two goals, after Eritrea pulled out of the qualifiers.

Tunisia

Tunisia had probably the most impressive run, conceding zero goals in ten games and winning nine of them.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia topped Group B in the fourth round of the AFC qualifying campaign, thanks to a 0-0 draw against Iraq on Tuesday night following last week's crucial win over Indonesia.

Jordan

Jordan qualified for their first-ever World Cup after beating Oman 3-0 in June. The Al-Nashama team came second in Group B of the AFC third round, winning four games, drawing four and losing two, enough to secure their place in the 2026 World Cup.

Qatar

Qatar's dramatic win against the UAE saw them leapfrog the Emiratis for first place in Group A, and ensured Oman did not qualify. Qatar went 2-0 up in their final match, and held on to a lead despite a goal eight minutes into extra time from UAE striker Sultan Adil.

Who could still qualify

The UAE or Iraq could still make it through to the finals, but only one has a chance with the two Arab teams facing each other over two legs in November. The winner of that clash will then play an intercontinental play-off, so it is a rocky road for both sides.
