Lebanese popstar Ragheb Alameh has posted a video in which he can be seen singing to US Representative Nancy Pelosi during royal wedding celebrations in Jordan.

"How beautiful when such a loving and beautiful soul as Nancy Pelosi asks you to hear 'Nafrah Bil Hussein' [We rejoice in Hussein] sung live. You are a gem and it was such a great pleasure," Alameh captioned a video on his Instagram page.

The short clip showed the Arab pop star singing the song, which he dedicated to Jordanian Crown Prince Hussein, as Pelosi looks on and claps - although what viewers could hear was a playback of the song instead of his actual voice.

The video also showed Alameh and his wife greeting Pelosi.

The video garnered a series of negative comments, with many criticising the singer for applauding Pelosi due to her country’s foreign policies in the region or her political stances in Washington.

Others wrote positive messages, admiring the gathering of the famous Lebanese singer and the senior US politician.

Alameh, like many other singers, dedicated songs to the Jordanian royals for a wedding which saw Prince Hussein tie the knot with Saudi architect Rajwa Al Seif on Thursday.

The ceremony was held in the mid-century Zahran Palace in the capital Amman - the site of other key royal weddings including that of King Abdullah II to Queen Rania as well as that of his father, the late King Hussein bin Talal.

US First Lady Jill Biden and the Prince and Princess of Wales were among the 140 guests.
