US strikes Qeshm Island, Iran retaliates with hits on Kuwait and Bahrain

As uncertainty swirls over the fate of the negotiations between Iran and the US, tit-for-tat violence erupted in the Gulf.

For those just joining us, here are the latest updates of the day:

  • Tit for tat strikes between Iran and the United States occurred overnight. It began with the United States military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) announcing "self-defence" strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island, soon after civilian vessels and regional allies, Kuwait and Bahrain, hosting US bases, came under attack
     
  • It is unclear if negotiations over the deal are stalled or ongoing. For his part, US President Donald Trump says that "conversations between us have been going on continuously," while Iranian officials claim messages had ceased over Israel's expanded attacks on Lebanon 
     
  • Israel continues attacks on southern Lebanon. At least 3,468 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon since 2 March alone, with 10,577 injured, according to the Lebanese health ministry
