Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello collaborates with Palestinian DJ Sama Abdulhadi

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello appeared on a song with Palestinian DJ Sama Abdulhadi for his new album "The Atlas Underground Fire".

Sama was arrested and detained by Palestinian police in December after she was accused of organising a techno set at a shrine to the Prophet Moses - a figure revered in Islam, Judaism and Christianity - in the occupied West Bank.

The collaborative album, which features several big hitters in the music industry, was released 15 October 2021.

It features the likes of Bring Me The Horizon, Bruce Springsteen, Damian Marley, and Grandson.

Morello and Sama appear on the last track together, in an eight-minute music piece called "On the Shore of Eternity".

The 57-year-old guitarist has spoken out about Palestinian rights. In an April tweet, he compared Palestinians to Native Americans and posted a caricature showing them as victims of dispossession.

Sama's arrest last year sparked a conversation about censorship by Palestinian authorities.

The 30-year-old musician spent eight days in prison and was released on bail on 3 January. She is barred from international travel and faces up to two years in prison if she is found guilty of desecrating a religious space and violating Covid-19 protocols.

"It was not a party. There were no drugs or alcohol. It was a boring film set and my friends were there as extras," Sama told The New Arab last month.

"We weren't even in the mosque, and we had permission from the authorities," she added.

Her supporters have pointed out that the shrine is a tourism and cultural site, not just a place of worship.
