Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has given the Syrian Democratic Forces four days to agree on a plan to integrate Hassakeh province, among other points.

The announcement comes after direct negotiations between Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and the SDF's military leader Mazloum Abdi ended without an agreement on Monday evening, with The New Arab's Arabic language sister service Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reporting that Abdi's position was influenced by pressure from PKK militant leaders in the group, and was rejected by Al-Sharaa.

Meanwhile, the SDF have withdrawn from the al-Hol refugee camp, which houses thousands of family members of Islamic State fighters, according to the head of the group's media centre.

The SDF "were compelled to withdraw from Al-Hol Camp and redeploy in the vicinity of cities in northern Syria that are facing increasing risks and threats," Farhad Shami said, as the Syrian army continues advancing towards the city of Hassakeh in the country's northeast.

Earlier, Syrian authorities said that 130 of 200 Islamic State group fighters who escaped from prison in Al-Shaddadi have been recaptured. The government accuses the SDF of releasing them.

The PKK has said that it will "never abandon" Kurds in Syria and that it would "do whatever is necessary," while Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya warned on X that Turkey would "not tolerate any initiatives or provocations... targeting the peace of our country".

The PKK, which has closely affiliated groups within the SDF, and Turkey, which backs the Syrian government, have fought a decades-long war since the 1970s.
