Syrian rebel group Ahrar al-Sham has claimed an attack against regime forces in the western Aleppo province.

The group said via its affiliated agencies on the Telegram application that it attacked regime military positions on Wednesday night, killing and wounding regime forces in the process, according to The New Arab’s Arabic-language sister service Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

"The operation targeted two regime positions near the village of Bala… a forward position of the regime forces was blown up, and three of its members were killed," military sources from the Syrian opposition ‘Al-Fateh Al-Mubin' operations room told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

Another regime soldier was wounded, the source said.

The 'Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq' brigade of the Islamist rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) also carried out an operation against regime forces on Wednesday morning in southern Idlib province.

HTS confirmed that members of the regime forces were killed and wounded, but did not give further details.

The hardline Islamist group also announced that Syrian rebel factions had launched 13 operations against the regime in the past three months in northwestern Syria, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported.

Regime forces also targeted on Wednesday night and Thursday morning the village of al-Tuffahiya in the Jabal Al-Akrad region in the northeastern countryside of Latakia.

They also targeted several villages and towns in the Jabal Al-Zawiya area of Idlib province and eastern Idlib province.

The Syrian conflict broke out in 2011, when the Syrian regime brutally cracked down on an uprising protesting President Assad’s corrupt and dictatorial rule.

Since then, over half a million people have been killed and millions more have been displaced, mostly as a result of regime bombardment of civilian areas.
