Syria imposes curfews in Daraa after deadly tribal clashes
Syria's interior ministry has imposed curfews on parts of Daraa province following deadly tribal clashes which killed three people and wounded others on Friday.
Internal Security commander in Daraa, Brigadier General Shaher Omran, said clashes broke out in the city of Izra between two families, resulting in deaths and injuries.
The official said that the Internal Security Forces intervened and imposed full control over the city, where reinforcements were also sent. A statement published by the Ministry of Interior also said that a tight cordon had been imposed around the affected areas, as well as a temporary curfew.
Local activist Mohammed al-Hourani told The New Arab's Arabic-language sister site, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that a man and his son were killed by gunfire while heading to Friday prayers, in what was described as retaliation for an old dispute. Another young man was also killed in the area.
The killings sparked violent clashes between two tribes in the city of Izra.
Al-Hourani added that another man was killed by unknown gunmen in a separate incident in the town of Nimr in the northern Daraa countryside.
Most areas of Daraa continue to be affected by the unregulated proliferation of weapons, despite government efforts to confiscate arms in the region.
