Ukraine and Russian officials appear to be floundering over planned peace talks this week.

Talks between Ukraine and Russia could take place in Turkey on Tuesday, officials have said.

"Regrettably, we cannot say there have been any significant achievements or breakthroughs so far," said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Peskov said a Russian delegation had flown to Turkey for the face-to-face meeting that should "allow for conducting talks in a more focused, tighter and meaningful way".

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky had said that he would consider his country's "neutral status" in peace talks with Russia.

"This point of the negotiations is understandable to me and it is being discussed, it is being carefully studied," Zelensky told independent Russian media.

One of Russia's demands has been Ukraine's neutral status.

The two sides are due to meet in Turkey this week for new peace talks.
