Sudan paramilitaries killed 31 civilians in Omdurman, medics network says
Sudanese paramilitaries executed at least 31 civilians, including children, in the capital’s twin city of Omdurman, local medics said on Sunday.
It was "the largest documented mass killing in the region," the Sudan Doctors Network stated.
The medics said the victims were accused by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of having ties to the Sudanese army, which recently pushed the paramilitary group out of Khartoum and has regained ground in much of central Sudan.
Activists shared videos on social media purportedly showing RSF personnel in uniform shooting at people in Omdurman’s Al-Salha neighbourhood.
The Sudan Doctors Network called the attack a "war crime and a crime against humanity," calling on the international community to take urgent action to save civilians still suck in Al-Salha.
Sudan’s army and the RSF have been locked in a brutal war since 15 April 2023, which has killed tens of thousands and displaced more than 12 million people.
The army controls much of the north, east, and now central, while the RSF controls much of the west and south.
The Rapid Support Forces have been accused of perpetrating genocide in Darfur by the Sudanese government.
