Palestinian faction releases footage of booby-trapped flag attack on Israel soldiers
The military wing of Gaza's Popular Resistance Committees released on Tuesday dramatic footage of an attack on Israeli soldiers involving a booby-trapped flag that injured four.
The al-Nasser Salah al-Deen Brigades released the video of the operation which took place in February, saying it was in response to Israeli war crimes and Washington's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The footage shows Israeli soldiers approaching the explosive device disguised as a Palestinian flag that had been placed on the border fence near the city of Khan Younis.
The bomb then goes off sending the troops flying in the air, severely injuring two of them.
The incident prompted the Israeli military at the time to launch airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, killing two 17-year-olds.
The never-before-seen footage came amid the worst escalation between Israel and Gaza since a 2014 war.
The latest round of violence began on Sunday with a botched Israeli special forces operation inside the Gaza Strip that turned deadly, killing seven Palestinians, including a senior Hamas commander.
An Israeli army officer was also killed.
Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza announced an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire with Israel on Tuesday.
Israel said the covert operation was an intelligence-gathering mission, but its timing has raised questions since progress had been made in recent weeks toward ending months of unrest along the Gaza-Israel border.
At least 220 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since major protests backed by Gaza's rulers Hamas began in March.
The majority have been shot during protests and clashes, but others have died in tank fire or air strikes.
One Israeli soldier was killed by a Palestinian sniper.
