Hundreds of Palestinians turned out on Monday to mourn a teenager who succumbed to his injuries days after reportedly being shot by an Israeli settler in the occupied West Bank.

Locals in Silwad, the hometown of 17-year-old Ramzi Fathi Hamed, and surrounding areas were in attendance.

His funeral procession left the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah, where he had been receiving treatment since last week after a guard of the Ofra illegal settlement reportedly opened fire on the vehicle he was traveling in with friends.

Ramzi's family bid him a final farewell at their home before the funeral.

The teenager, who according to medics suffered a severe pulmonary embolism in hospital, was laid to rest in a cemetery in Silwad.

Omar Hamed, the head of a local sports club, said that Ramzi used to visit the club almost daily and was committed to his country.

"The people of Silwad are coming under increasing attack - including stone throwing - by settlers who are protected by the Israeli army," he added.

Israeli forces and settlers routinely use deadly violence against Palestinians, with over 200 fatalities so far this year.

Israeli settlements are illegal under international law and are considered a key barrier to a workable two-state solution.

There are more than 700,000 settlers residing in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
