Palestinians set fire to cars belonging to Israeli settlers in the Silwan area of occupied East Jerusalem in the early hours of Saturday, local media have reported.

Palestinians in the area are the target of regular attacks by Israeli settlers and security forces who expel local people from their homes and seize them.

The vehicles were burned by the Palestinians after Israeli forces launched raids in the area, local media reported.

Six cars were completely burned, Israeli media reported.

Israeli police have launched an investigation and increased their presence in the area as a result.

Israel has recently ordered that hundreds of homes be demolished and Palestinians be evicted while settlements continue to be built.

The neighborhood is also close to Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is frequently raided by settlers and where Palestinian worshippers are attacked.
