Palestinian killed in Nablus as Israeli forces raid West Bank village
Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank on Monday evening, amid ongoing military raids and settler violence in the occupied territory.
The Palestinian health ministry announced the death of Abdelraouf Ishtiyeh, 30, from Tell near Nablus, whose body is still being held by Israeli authorities.
Israeli troops besieged Ishtiyeh's house in Nablus Monday night, triggering armed clashes. Troops reportedly fired anti-tank missiles at the building where Ishtiyeh was hiding, resulting in his death.
He had been wanted since May 2024 after Israel said he was behind a car ramming that killed two Israeli soldiers.
Since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023, at least 1,080 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military raids as well as attacks by Jewish Israeli settlers in the West Bank, according to Palestinian figures.
These assaults have intensified in recent months.
Elsewhere on Tuesday morning, Israeli forces infiltrated the village of Marka in the northern West Bank, amid reports of clashes with Palestinians.
Troops besieged a house as a military bulldozer arrived at the scene amid reinforcements, including helicopters, with heavy gunfire heard in the village.
Some reports said missiles were also fired at the besieged building with videos showing the aftermath of the devastated scene.
It was not immediately clear who the residence belonged to. Israel often destroys family homes of alleged Palestinians attackers, in a measure widely condemned by rights groups as collective punishment.
Earlier at dawn, settlers carried out attacks in the towns of Silwad in the central West Bank and Mukhmas, north of Jerusalem. These included home break ins and the vandalising of agricultural land.
Apartheid wall collapse
Heavy rain on Tuesday caused the partial collapse of Israel’s separation wall near the city of Hebron in the southern West Bank.
Videos shared online showed a section of the concrete wall outside the village of Al-Burj completely torn down due to the floodwater.
Landslides disrupted traffic on roads west of Ramallah in the central West Bank, while several vehicles were reported damaged due to flooding.
Often dubbed the Apartheid Wall, the barrier which Israel has continued to extend and fortify for decades isolates Palestinian communities in the West Bank, while seizing more West Bank land and futher disrupting ordinary life for Palestinians in the occupied territory.
Despite the barrier being illegal under international law, Israel continues to push forward with its settlement policy in the West Bank, building thousands of housing units and confiscating more land for other use.
