The Palestinian Authority has established a liaison office headed by Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa to coordinate with the office of the High Representative for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov, Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh announced on Saturday.

Al-Sheikh said the office "is now ready to fully assume its duties", describing it as a formal channel for coordination in the implementation of President Donald Trump’s twenty-point peace plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803.

In a letter addressed to Mladenov, al-Sheikh wrote: "His Excellency Mr Nickolay Mladenov, High Representative for Gaza / Peace Council. We are pleased to express our welcome of the statement issued by your office on 20 February 2026 regarding the establishment of a liaison office by the Palestinian Authority, and your affirmation of the importance of this institutional framework for communication and coordination."

He added that this "came within the framework of ensuring the success of the efforts led by President Donald Trump and supporting the political path aimed at achieving stability and peace."

Al-Sheikh had earlier welcomed Mladenov’s announcement of the creation of a liaison mechanism affiliated with the Palestinian National Authority, aimed at providing "an official channel for coordination and communication between the Office of the Peace Council Representative and the Palestinian Authority" to implement Trump’s plan and Security Council Resolution 2803.

In his letter, the Palestinian vice president reiterated support for the political framework underpinning the initiative. "

We have welcomed President Trump’s twenty-point plan, as well as UN Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025), the establishment of the High Representative’s office, and the formation of the National Committee for the Administration of the Gaza Strip," he wrote.

He described these steps as "practical transitional steps that contribute to alleviating the suffering of our people and providing administrative and security services, in a way that does not create administrative, legal, and security duplication between our people in Gaza and the West Bank, and that consolidates the principle of one system, one law, and unified legitimate arms."

Al-Sheikh confirmed that he had formally informed Mladenov of the office’s establishment under Mustafa’s leadership, stating that it "is now ready to fully assume its duties, ensuring a clear and organised channel for coordination and communication with your office".

The announcement signals renewed coordination between the Palestinian Authority and international actors involved in post-war governance arrangements for Gaza, amid ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilising the territory and advancing a political settlement.
