Palestinian prisoner Musab Hassan Adili, 20, died in Soroka Medical Centre on Wednesday evening, three days before he was due to be released from prison, becoming the 64th Palestinian prisoner to die in Israeli detention since 7 October 2023.

Adili, who was from the village of Osarin, south of Nablus, had been detained since 22 March 2024 and was serving a 13-month prison sentence.

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees' Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club confirmed on Thursday that the Civil Affairs Authority had informed them of the death.

The commission stated: "With the martyrdom of detainee Adili, the number of martyrs among prisoners and detainees since the genocide began has risen to 64, and these are only those whose identities are known in light of the continuing crime of enforced concealment. Among [those killed] at least 40 are from Gaza.

"The number of martyrs from the prisoner movement whose identities are known since 1967 is now 301, while the number of martyred prisoners whose bodies are being held has risen to 73, including 62 since the genocide."

It described Adili's death on Palestinian Prisoners' Day as "a new crime in the litany carried out by the barbaric Israeli system, which has practiced every kind of crime with the aim of killing prisoners. These crimes form another aspect of the ongoing genocide".

The commission and prisoners' club held Israel responsible for Adili's death and called on the international community to hold its leaders accountable for the war crimes committed against the Palestinian people, suggesting sanctions to end Israel's impunity.

Hamas said Adili's death "proves the Zionist occupation and its fascist prison administration's determination to continue their revenge and torture of prisoners, depriving them of the most basic human rights, while continuing their policy of medical neglect, which means the slow killing of prisoners inside prisons".

"This crime, which occurred on the eve of Palestinian Prisoners' Day and as his freedom approached, as he was supposed to be freed after three days, confirms that the occupation's crimes against prisoners are still escalating."
