Ms Rachel accepts Glamour award wearing dress designed by Gaza children
Children's entertainer Ms Rachel accepted a Glamour Magazine's award for Women of the Year 2025 in New York on Tuesday, wearing an outfit embroidered with drawings made by children from Gaza.
The black-and-white dress features embroideries by nine Palestinian children from Gaza, a flower-covered peace dove holding an olive branch placed front and centre, and a Palestinian flag on the back.
On the bottom of the dress was a drawing of a child standing amid Gaza's destruction, feeding a cat with a bowl that had the word "hope "written on it.
Underneath each drawing was the name of the young artist behind the design, with Ms Rachel holding pictures of each of the children as she stood for pictures on the red carpet.
Ms Rachel, whose real name is Rachel Accurso, was named one of Glamour's Women of the Year 2025 for her advocacy work for children, which, since the beginning of Israel's war on Gaza, has included Gaza's children.
According to Glamour, Ms Rachel hopes that the artwork will elevate the stories of the children, telling publications that the children "know about the dress, and they're so excited".
In her acceptance speech, Ms Rachel said she was honoured and proud to wear the artwork of the Gaza children.
"Rana made this beautiful drawing. She lost both of her sisters in the genocide. She lost her nine-month-old sister Haya in her arms in an airstrike. Her older sister was killed the next month," she said.
Ending her speech with her words, Ms Rachel said: "Rana wanted to say, 'I want to tell the world that my sisters are not numbers, they are moons, they are like the stars, they shine and sparkle.'"
Rana's drawing of a bucket pouring the planets and stars into space was worn on Ms Rachel's left shoulder.
Ms Rachel has been an outspoken critic of Israel's war on Gaza, centring her support for Palestinian children in the enclave, at least 20,000 of whom have been killed since the start of the war.
Alongside being named one of Glamour's Women of the Year, in September, she was selected as the new global ambassador for the Palestine Children's Relief Fund.
Amid a backlash to her advocacy, she told Boston public radio station WBUR that she "wouldn't be Ms Rachel if I didn't deeply care about all kids".
"I will risk everything, and I will risk my career over and over to stand up for them. It's all about the kids for me."
She previously told Glamour in an interview that her role as one of the world's leading children's entertainers is "a big responsibility that should be used as much as possible".
On Tuesday night, New Yorkers also celebrated the mayoral electoral win for pro-Palestinian Muslim candidate Zohran Mamdani.
