Mia Khalifa reacts to Zohran Mamdani’s historic win as New York mayor
Former adult film star Mia Khalifa celebrated Zohran Mamdani's win as New York's first South-Asian, Muslim mayor on Wednesday.
Shortly after Mamdani's win, Khalifa joked on X about whether there would be a "grace period before sharia law kicks in" as she flies to New York, playing on the Islamophobic stereotypes and rhetoric often used against Muslim politicians in the US.
The Lebanese-American, who lives in Florida, shared a video on her Instagram story jokingly accusing Mamdani, who has a lot of celebrity backing, including from the likes model Emily Ratajkowski and actor-comedian Ramy Youssef, of "importing women from red states so that they can be third wives in New York".
Khalifa also reminded her followers that while the win is "fun" and "great", the newly elected mayor must be held accountable for his actions as he is still a politician.
"This is fun and a great win, but at the end of the day, he's still a politician and must be held accountable by us, not pedestaled," Khalifa wrote on X.
Khalifa also retweeted a tweet calling Mamdani's controversial political rival and challenger, Andrew Cuomo, a "loser".
While celebrating Mamdani's win, Khalifa also praised children's entertainer Ms Rachel for wearing a dress embroidered with drawings by Palestinian children as she accepted Glamour Magazine's award for Women of the Year 2025 in New York.
Khalifa has long used her platform in support of Palestine and to denounce Israel and its supporters over the war in Gaza, as well as supporting pro-Gaza figures, including Bob Vylan and Mahmoud Khalil, who have faced attacks from Israel supporters over their support for Palestine.
Mamdani's victory has been called a historic event for New York, offering hope an alternative to increasingly right-wing and pro-Israel US politics espoused by President Donald Trump and those around him.
